It’s been a while. As I recall, Yoonhee got sucked into Queen of Darkness.

I’ll read these episodes quickly while I still have time.

    Episode 17 Commentary

I can’t recall how Do-yoon was able to travel back and forth from W to the real world. But I do recall that the manhwa worlds are parallel dimensions that can be controlled temporarily whilst a manhwa is being written.

I’m starting at this part as I type. Good thing that this is a parallel subplot to that of Queen of Darkness, and you’re doing flashbacks to Butterfly Girl. I’ll really struggle had this been a direct continuation of the previous episode.

Re: Soobong’s contemplation of the time differences. It reminded me of the time differences between the real world and the book world in the anime Fushigi Yuugi. And now that we’re at it, I still don’t know when I’ll get the answer on the flash forward.

#11 looks like we’ll have a repeat of Prof Park’s antics of frustration by the recent change of plot in Queen of Darkness….though this did not happen.

#20 and previous frames…we’ve returned to Queen of Darkness….so far it’s one of those episodes that seem boring but who know if this is a calm before the storm.

#21…Yonhee’s face disappearing. One could imagine that this happens because Yonhee’s consciousness (and Kang Chul’s) goes to the webtoon character. But I’m having second thoughts if this is consistent with how Oh Sung-moo’s face got removed in the original series. The faceless Oh Sungmoo was conscious of himself as a faceless being all that time.

[insert] recall: I had this theory that this was referring to Kang Chul.

#27 we now shift back to Butterfly Girl

#32 the pacing in this frame has picked up with Soobong back in the real world. What could be Kangchul’s hypothesis?

Before we go back to Queen of Darkness, I wonder how you come up with new plausible hypotheses. That’s probably the result of you studying and examining the script of W, but I am amaze that you could do that.

Anyway, it ended in a cliffhanger. This episode feels like a plateau punctuated in the middle by a tall mountain and ended in a small hill.

As mentioned earlier, there are lingering questions in my mind that I hope will be answered in the following episodes. Then again, these questions might remain as questions until you have milked it dry. Hahaha

    I’ll read Episode 18 tomorrow.

Do-Yoon: Episode 15, Kang Chul goes to get him in W and brings him back so that Yeon-Joo is not alone.

#8: Here, the continuation of the previous episode is done thanks to the cliffhanger of episode 16. The last two scenes.

This part of the drama is complicated to tell because there are both "Queen of Darkness" and Ren-Bo (~episodes 17 to 22). Some of these episodes are less exciting about action, and more about comedy and resolution of unavoidable situations.

Also, spending some time with the characters, their lives. Which gives depth to the sequel. Like episode 14 with the relationship between Yoon-Hee and Moon Mi-Ra, which gives depth to the events of episode 16 between them. I have the feeling that the drama takes a bit more time than season 1 for that. Hard to gauge, because when I read the screenplay of W, it doesn't feel as intense as it does on screen. But since it was a point that the audience found lacking, I thought it would be fine. I did it because naturally it seemed to me to be relevant. It does slow down the pace though. It's a double-edged sword. That's why when I reworked these episodes, I tried to shorten them, make it more interesting or bring in more manhwa-related elements.

So far, I'm well on my way to having figured out a compromise for episodes 19, 20, 21, 22, which close out this arc, and having a path to restructure this whole mess. A few episodes deleted and redistributed. Like you said, the solution eventually emerges.

#11: Prof Park brings a bit of humor, but it also allows the transition with Won Yun-Suk and Moon Mi-Ra's phone call.

#20: This episode is one of the most complicated because there are almost all the characters and all the worlds that have at least one scene. This requires a natural scene order, with transitions whenever possible.

#21: Without going into detail because of spoilers, you've already guessed. This is a new phenomenon. Different from Oh Sung-Moo's, but with the zombie similarity.

#32: we know Kang Chul's hypothesis a little later in the episode. The scene with Jin In-Jin devoured by his insect collection is actually a flashback. But after doing it that way, it looked very bad (the green color) and it was better to tell it as a normal scene. The next scene says that it took place before Soo-Bong came back to the real world.

Looking closely at W's script helped me understand the phenomena of the drama, the ones I wanted to reuse. For example, there are some that I don't reuse. When the killer comes out of the tablet to grab Oh Sung-Moo. Because it's too blurry, it looks like he could get out of the tablet completely, but probably he can't.

In conceiving this story, I was amazed at how many new phenomena could take place in this universe. That there was a huge potential to renew all the craziness of the first season with new craziness. This episode contains a number of them. Things that never happened in W, strange, new, mysterious. To be explained, sooner or later, or to be guessed in the meantime. The more the drama goes on, the more it is huge. New situations, like here, an end in the manhwa but no end in the real world. Or even more thrilling later.

The big challenge is to do it in a way that is similar to the original script of W. To make it something exciting, while having a logical explanation for what happens. That was a big motivation for me to tell this story, because just repeating the phenomena of the original drama would have been boring. So new mysteries for season 2. Lots of them! If possible, quickly, like Soo-Bong going from one box to another or using a stylus. And a lot of mind-fuck, when they try to solve it all by making assumptions, along with the audience.

About the answers... Here you have an example: some events that appeared in the episode have an answer before the end of the episode (when Kang Chul and Yeon-Joo read the manhwa and explain to Do-Yoon what happened). But other phenomena don't have answers yet. Sometimes, some answers are long to come... This drama is a huge puzzle. By the end, most of it will have been explained, except for the little things that are easy to guess. In the meantime, and unless you have guessed, I imagine it will be a mixture of frustration, excitement and amazement. At least I hope so. That's why I need to hurry up and get everything corrected and finished this year!
